Dear Members and Friends,
On October 21, 22, 23 Cornerstone Housing Society is planning a weekend of events to inform the community at large about L'Arche and about our goal of establishing a L'Arche Community in this province. To that end we are planning to have a guest speaker, a panel discussion, a whole day of L'Arche community activities and end with a time of reflection.
Lest you think we are a large group, let me tell you that we are a small group of active members.
We need your help to make this weekend a success, to help get our message out there, to help us cast our net as wide as possible and to help us expand our base of active members.
If you can help with this worthwhile cause, please attend our planning meeting this coming Sunday, August 21, 2 - 4 pm at the parish hall of St. Thomas Anglican Church on Military Road. (right across from The Hotel). If you cannot attend then, but would like to help us, please contact me by return email.
Saturday coming, August 13, is the second Saturday of the month - our designated walking day! Come join us for a walk around Kent's Pond, 2 - 4 pm. Bring a snack to share and we'll have a little picnic half-way round.
Here's hoping that the weather is nice. If it's really awful, we can go to the Field House. But let's hope we don't have to do that.
If you haven't walked with us before, you are all welcome and especially those of you who have a mentally disabled family member or friend to bring along. We meet in the parking lot on back of the Confederation Building, actually the parking lot just a little to the east of the Confed Bldg. It is close to the trail. The trail is easy walking and easy for wheelchairs.
Hello Members and Friends,
It's finally summer! Sunny days, picnics, swimming, long walks! Our next Jam Circle is this coming Saturday, July 23, at the Church Hall of St. Thomas Church, Military Road. It starts at 2 pm; we go for an hour or so and then conclude with a bite to eat. If you'd like, bring along a song (preferably the silly, repetitive kind) and a snack to share. In our Jam Circle abled and disabled members of our group improvise music together for fun. No pressure! Would you help us by spreading the word to any friends and family members who have a member who is intellectually disabled or knows someone who is intellectually disabled. We are trying to expand our base in the community and to conduct an activity that our current "core members" (our intellectually disabled members) can participate in. Music is the one commonality that we all share. Even with just two jam circles behind us, we see so much potential in this activity.
Hope to see you there! And please spread the word!
